A Post by Guest Blogger Donna Winters, Plus a Chance to Win a Free Copy of Adventures with Vinnie

Why did you choose to write Adventures with Vinnie?
We adopted a shelter dog named Vinnie in March 2012 who turned out to be a real handful. One vet called him a “loose cannon.” About a month after he came to live with us, I realized I needed to write down the crazy things he did so I could share them in a book.

What did you learn while writing this book?
I learned that I finally had something to say in the nonfiction genre. I’ve been a fiction writer since 1982 and have said several times that I didn’t have a nonfiction book in me. That was true until Vinnie came along.

What was your favorite scene/chapter from the book?
My favorite chapter is Chapter 5. The incident described there still makes me laugh, although at the time, it was more of a nuisance than an occasion for laughter.
When was your first book published?
My first book, a contemporary romance, was published by Thomas Nelson in 1985 on Valentine’s Day. I’ll be forever grateful to the editor who took a chance on me with that first title, For the Love of Roses, a semi-autobiographical romance set in a fictional town that resembles the town where I grew up.

What accomplishment(s) are you most proud of, writing-related or not?
Forty-two happy years of marriage to a wonderful man!

How can readers get in contact with you? (mail, email, website)
Readers can contact me through my website, www.GreatLakesRomances.com. There’s a contact form and email address at the bottom of the home page, as well as social media links for connecting.

Here’s a little about my story, Adventures with Vinnie.

Handsome. Affectionate. In need of a forever home. And we were in need of another rescue dog. Thus began our Adventures with Vinnie.

From his first day to his last, the only predictable thing about Vinnie was his unpredictability. Loving and loyal, an escape artist to rival Houdini, and a genuinely comical fellow, his antics will make you laugh, give you a fright (but only for a moment), and melt your heart.

Looking for something to read? Try Sweet Madness by Heather Snow

Blurb from Sweet Madness:
Ever since her husband's sudden and tragic death, Lady Penelope Bridgeman has committed herself to studying the maladies of the mind, particularly the trauma of soldiers of the Napoleonic Wars. It is this expertise that brings the Marquess of Bromwich's family to her door. Gabriel Devereaux's unexpected and unpredictable episodes are unlike any Penelope has studied. The once proud soldier has been left shaken and withdrawn, but Penelope manages to build a fragile trust between them. Strangely, Gabriel seems completely lucid when not in the grips of his mania, and during the calm bouts between, she is surprised by how much she is drawn to him. Despite his own growing feelings, Gabriel knows that he is fit for no one and is determined to keep Penelope away from his descent into madness. But even though she knows firsthand the folly of loving a broken man, Penelope cannot stop herself from trying to save him, no matter the cost.

Claiming Mariah by Pam Hillman

In light of her father’s death, Mariah Malone sends a letter that will forever alter the lives of her family. When Slade Donovan, strong willed and eager for vengeance, shows up on her front porch, Mariah is not ready to hear his truths: her father’s farm, the only home she’s ever known, was bought with stolen gold. With Slade ready to collect his father’s rightful claim and force Mariah and her family out on the streets, Mariah must turn to God for guidance. Though Mr. Frederick Cooper, a local landowner, promises to answer her financial woes if she agrees to be his bride, Mariah finds herself drawn instead to the angry young man demanding her home.

With the ranch now under Slade’s careful eye, he will unearth more than he ever imagined as a devious plot of thievery, betrayal and murder threatens more than the well-being of the ranch, endangering the lives of those who hold it dear. With days dwindling until the rest of the Donovan clan arrive to the Lazy M ranch, Mariah and Slade must rise above the resentment of their fathers and see their true feelings before greed alters their futures forever.
